Remote Audio Talk Down Solution?

Remote audio talk downs seems to be something clients are recommending more and more these days.  For the most part, the solution seems simple - Ensure the chosen camera has an audio output and mic input - route these through an amplifier, and obviously to a speaker - activate the audio path within the camera, and there you have it - toggle audio on and off through the VMS.

Logic tells me that this is simple, yet I am battling to get this right from our remote control room.  It works perfectly on site through the microphone connected directly to the amplifier (obviously), however I cannot get it working through the VMS.  I am using Geovision VMS onsite.

Is there a recommendation for small network amplifiers that would not require me going through the VMS at all?

Am I just going mad, and the solution is as simple as pie, and I am doing something wrong?

Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

Audio talk-down is generally one-way only, no mic at the camera. You will typically not be able to hear anything from the remote side unless the person were within a few feet of the mic. This can be partially overcome with directional mics, but then you only cover a very narrow portion of the area, and it gets expensive, so it just is not done. If you want two-way audio capabilities for some reason, setup an intercom box.

You can use an amp+speaker combo, but self-amplified speakers make the job easier. In the past I had good luck with the Valcom 1036-M (make sure to also buy their oddball -24VDC power supply).

I am not familiar with Geovision's audio component, but I do know other central stations that have made it work.

An alternative if you want to make it all IP might be the Axis Network Horn, the SIP capabilities make it easy to integrate with your phone system if you manage your own PBX. Operators can dial the various speakers as if they are extensions on your phone system, and use their phone headset for the talk-down. Down-side is this can get a bit clumsy if they are also using the phone to call police/etc. while also wanting to do audio talk-down, where they have to switch to a PC mic.

Check out the bottom section for IP cameras. We installed 2 of the SP-E at one location, off Dahua cameras. It was as easy as using the audio/mic from the camera to the Loroue unit.

The downside was the NVR did not directly support it. So the client uses the app on their phone with connections to 2 recorders and direct access to the 2 cameras with audio.

Just like usual, 99% there but choke at the goal line

AVIGILON Employee;

AVO Bullets are normally combined with pre-amp speakers from TOA for example using the Audio connection from the camera. This allows for (mobile) talk down using the app and/or ACC or by the Control Room mostly using Immix Cloud or Sentinel + platforms. Works every time.
