Mass Notification/Public Display Messaging

We want to show a predefined message on a public display during a lockdown situation. Wondering what folks are using nowadays. Not interested in a proprietary system unless it offered clear benefits. We have considered using a Raspberry Pi, sending it an input trigger, having it then control switching the display source on the display to a static 'lockdown' message that it was sending out. Any reliable methods out there someone would like to share?
