The ports go bad randomly. We would have dismissed it as a case of a bad switch but we replace one of the switches and this continued. Some ports irremediably go bad but other would come up after a reboot. We also noticed that once installed in this location and connected to outside cameras the replaced switch which up to then was working flawlessly lost a few ports. We have lost a total of 15 ports, counting the ports that go bad randomly, i-e they don't work at first but rebooting the switch may or may not have them work. We repeat that is the only location where we have such problems. It is close to the ocean sea and subject to lighting storm. The proximity to the ocean is what differentiates it from other locations .
We will start running shielded cable when long run are involved outdoors. We would have gone full fiber if it weren't for the high cost involved. Thinking about it, the best would be to run separate Power and Ethernet to the cameras (they are PoE but accept external power as well). Run those cameras off some industrial Ethernet switch of course with Regular Ethernet surge protection and regular DC power protection. We will carefully evaluate the cost of this option. it is definitely more expensive but less so than multiple truck rolls and loss of faith from customer :(
