I am in the process of designing a system at a storage facility

2 years ago rewired the facility with Cat6 in anticipation of changing the analog cameras to IP

8 Cameras, planning on deploying Vicon Valerus at this facility

My longest runs are 700 feet, beyond the limit of POE

Anyone have experience with POE extenders, and good quality brand to use?

Full disclosure, I am a Vicon employee and extremely pleased with management's commitment to service and support

I have in the field with Veracity Longspan (IPVM Report)extenders at 1000-1200 feet with no issues at all. They're a little expensive for the pair, but I never had one fail. We had outdoor Axis cameras and Genetec AutoVu LPR cameras running over them.

I've had good experiences with Veracity extenders as well.

Veracity Outreach Max and Outreach Max XT

install them in secure boxes but in easy to service locations depending on ladder or lift access - everything fails eventually.  Plus, you don't want them to been seen as an easy opportunity to gain network connectivity

I've visited at least 25 factories around the world that make these units. There is one that is fantastic. I'm in talks with them right now, but their pricing is tremendous and the quality has been flawless...They have 60 & 90W options, outdoor/indoor options...I like them because it's all they do.

As long as you have good places to mount the injectors midspan (easy access to the cable), you only need to use a couple units.

There is another technology though which give is very interesting. I call this StretchIT mode on my brand, but it allows you to push your power and data 750ft and never dip below 10Mbps, you will have access to most of the power you are sending up the line, where as those midspan repeaters will suck up power along the way. There's no baluns, no midspans, not finding lock box or MDF/IDF rooms to keep connection safe...

A single 8-port PoE switch with a couple gig uplinks (1 SFP/1 RJ45) with semi industrial casing (extended temp range/dustprooff)...Cost is about what you'd see for a standard  Trendnet/Netgear unit. We are killing it with this unit. The drawback...StretchIT is a global setting right now. If you are running H.265 1080p at 15ips...no problem. A couple 4K units, not going to work well. Message me for more info. It's simple and I've got a bunch of camera factories asking to use these for their field sales guys.

I've used several.  Generally, as long as you fall within their specifications, use decent cable, and over-engineer on the gauge you will be fine.  By over-engineer on the gauge if it says to utilize 24 AWG Cat5e/6 out to 1000' and your run is 950'... spend a little bit more for 23 AWG Cat6.

Vigitron - Very good, but their management interface on the multi-port units is extremely complex/clunky.  To my knowledge this is the only product I have never had a single failure on.

Altronix - We have had quite good luck with these and they are low cost.  No management interface and they are all basically just pass-through.

Veracity - Everyone has had good luck with these and for many they are the only brand.  The information displayed on the side of these units assists greatly with troubleshooting.  I do not like the lack of multi-port units so I use Veracity less often now.  Having a rack of 200 single port units wedged into their rackmount conversion kit can be a mess.

NVT - They were good products the last I made use of them.  I have not used since Phybridge took over.  That's not a statement on quality decline but rather the product line was going in a direction I was not interested in at the time.

Comnet - This one has been hit and miss for me.  I found the smaller units are less reliable... something about not negotiating properly over longer distances.  The large pricey units are almost bullet proof.

Veracity and Altronix have both worked well for us.
