Have a retail center customer who is experiencing both water theft (mobile power washing rigs filling their tanks) and illegal trash dumping. They have existing cameras to catch the activities, but the license plates are not legible.
The water and dumpster locations do not allow placement of additional cameras as the viewpoints (especially vertical) would be too oblique to expect success.
The remaining option is to capture the plates on vehicles as they enter and exit the property via the two entrances.
A camera could be placed 160 feet from the first entrance. It would look down at a 9 degree angle and would be offset 23 degrees from head on. The calculator says the hfov would be 11 degrees.
The second entrance is 235 feet from the best camera placement option. There would be a 6 degree vertical angle and an unfortunate 30 degree side offset from head on. The hfov here is 9 degrees.
Vehicles entering the lot will be below 10 mph (probably below 5 mph). Both entrances are well lit at night with LED luminaires on 35 foot poles. Those light sources will not be in the field of view, but headlights will still be a concern.
I have seen many articles and recommendations showing the Axis Q1765-LE works well for LPC if configured correctly. It looks like there would be more than 50 ppf at both locations, which seems like it would be enough.
I have never used any Hanwha products, but think the new Wisenet X cameras look interesting. Their brochures show some license plate stills using highlight compensation that appear compelling. Am also interested in seeing how their USB setup options works compared a laptop. The XNO-6120R looks like the right camera.
Price is not a huge consideration considering this is a small incremental install. But, it is important not to misfire and put something in place that does do get the job done for the building owner.
Do the experts think this solution can work at all with 23 and 30 degree horizontal offsets from head on?
Would you stick with the more proven Axis, or is the newer Hanwha a better option? Has anyone here used a Wisenet X camera for LPC?
Is there another option (or important detail of the solution) that I am missing?
