I caught this update today "ONVIF Profile A: Coming soon, to a device (or client) near you!"

But then reading the fine print: "Profile A for access control configuration is scheduled to be released in June of 2017"... so not really soon at all.

IPVM has published a number of articles critical of ONVIF access ventures, including Access Control Does Not Want ONVIF and Access Interoperability: Going Nowhere. The biggest obstacle for the access profiles has been a lack of adoption among mainstay access equipment and software manufacturers. Several have told us the business case for adoption has yet to show any tangible benefits or market demand.

Despite ONVIF's enthusiastic pre-announcement announcement, these criticisms still hold.
