Is There An Online Services Platform For Our Industry?

This may be a shot in the dark, I'm wondering if there is an online platform recommended by the IPVM community where professionals in our industry can offer expert services, and (for me) find/hire them. For example, something similar to what 99designs or Upwork does.

There are a ton of facebook and linkedin groups that offer some help in these areas. As for websites I know of one for sure: Kirschenbaum Alarm Exchange

What kind of “expert services” are you looking for? There are lots of industry specific marketing agencies and consultants (I believe I have seen some lists here in the discussions) and I have a few through linkedin I know of.

I agree with David Delepine. Ken Kirshenbaum's Alarm exchange (link listed in his comment) contains many online listings by various categories (Central Stations, subcontractors, help wanted, Insurance, Marketing, etc.

Like David, I'm not sure if I quite understand the question behind the question.  Many of us here in IPVM would be more than happy to share our recommendations based on your exact needs.  Are you looking to drum up more business by representing yourself as a subcontractor or are you looking for one?  Looking for help with marketing?  Looking to develop an online platform?

I'll keep an eye out for your follow up.

Brent, I don't know of any modern security industry equivalent of what 99designs or Upwork does. The Kirschenbaum listing is an old school text / classified ads format and I believe requires adding a link from your website to his (which limits its reach).

We have used Clarity, which is an expert hiring service. Though it is aimed at startups they have various experts in different fields (e.g., IT security experts). We have found it useful when analyzing different business parts.

Wild Bullet used to be a good website. Just went there and it appears they are finally updating it from the 90's look it has always had. Of course many websites continually say that. May be worth checking back with now and then.

Thank you all for your input!

To answer your question @David, what I'm working on at the moment is getting Axis perimeter defender video analytics to work well with Milestone xProtect (Expert). I have all the (5) software pieces in place and talking. Alarms are even being received in the xProtect smart client, but there is some inconsistency in how the alarms show up that need to be ironed out. Up to now I've been reinventing the wheel, if you will. So I was hoping to find someone familiar with this setup, who can steer me right in getting the software dialed in, and hopefully even learn a little. If it worked out, to also bring him/her on now and then for follow on consulting (integrating radar, etc).

I've reached out to Axis and Milestone, as I believe they maintain a listing of partner experts I might reach out to. I'm still waiting on their response.

Thank you John for the mention of Clarity, that seems to be the closest I've seen to now. I've also come across LinkedIN Profinder

Brent, thanks for the LinkedIn Profinder. I had not seen that. Just to learn, I submitted a request for social media experts. They say "Within 24 hours, we will introduce you to experts available and interested in helping you." I am not sure how relevant or exact that will be. I don't think (or at least I could not figure out) how to find experts on the LinkedIn Profinder directly without submitting.

As for your request, that makes sense. I'd recommend you post that here as a discussion "Looking for an expert to help integrate Axis perimeter defender and Milestone XProtect" to see if anyone has that relevant experience.

Btw, I do think there is an opportunity for some technical specialists to provide that consulting, i.e., an expert in Axis/Milestone/Genetec might be able to find a number of 'virtual' project/clients.

Quick update - I got a few proposals from 'LinkedIn Profinder'. The responses you get are fairly generic and then you need to talk them further to get more information (pricing, offerings, etc.). To that end, I am not really sure how much better that is than just googling for "X" and contacting people off their website.

These other sites we discussed typically have reviews from people who have purchased services off the platform, often pricing, etc., which helps to identify best fits.

Hi Brent - Thanks for your further explanation.  I have a group that may be able to help.  I'll circle with them in the morning and see if they can help with this. In addition, to LinkedIn Profinder, if you have a LinkedIn Sales Navigator account you can apply a fair amount of filters to find someone your looking for whether it be to help with a prospective resource/partner or if you're looking for prospects.  I recently had a session at PSA TEC a few weeks back and walked the group through how this works.

I'll be back in touch tomorrow.

Cheers!

D.

Thank you John for your Profinder results. That does sound a little generic. I'm wondering how they garner the supply of 'pros'. I myself have never seen any ads promoting offering services on Profinder. Maybe that was by design ;). Thanks as well for the alternative post suggestion. I will do so. And I agree that there is an opportunity there for a virtual consultancy. On a more macro level, something like that could even help teams try out new technology in a safe way, instead of defaulting to the 'devil they know' by tenured analogue experts. Good for the industry. I look forward to seeing IPVM next week as ISC.

@David M thanks for taking a look whether you have someone who might have the experience. BTW I considered using Sales Navigator. It would presuppose the person include xProtect and APD on their profile. It seems unlikely, but perhaps worth a shot. Thanks.
