What Causes An Echo Or Resound?

I had installed an Drive-Thru system. When I am speaking to the customer on the headphone I am able to hear my voice back. Could any one tell me what causes the echo or resound? Can it because of any grounding problems or what?

The echo is the natural result of a full duplex (bi-directional) communication channel. So you are just hearing yourself come thru the outside speaker, which is being picked up by the outside mic.

Depending on what kind of system, there will be a slight delay as well.

There are two ways I'm aware of to tackle this problem. The simplest is to goto half-duplex, PTT, push to talk mode, like a walkie-talkie. Then you won't hear anything while you have the transmit button pressed.

Problem is that it ties up one hand and that you can't hear the customer interrupting you.

The other way is using auto muting with an input sensitivity control.

Basically what this does is listens for you to start talking and then mutes the outside mic while your voice remains over a certain volume.

You should look for a setting like VAA or auto-ducking or some sensitivity type setting so you can lower the volume threshold to a point that it will mute the outside mic while you are speaking.

Don't set it too low though or the customer will cut out just due to ambient noise.

What model do you have?

i am using the 3M model . I had reduced the volume of the outside speaker and still there is very low echo .But if i set the outside speaker volume to too low to cancel the echo ,the customer is unable to hear properly as the voice is too low .

i was thinking , does this echo problems occur if there is no proper grounding or loose connection at the grounding point

i had set the echo cancellation to maximum in the settings of the control unit , but still the problem exists

I don't see how it could be grounding causing an echo, but you could describe how its grounded just for a double check.

Which model do you have the g5 or the x1?

Have you experimented with the input and kitchen noise reduction settings and the echo cancel together?

Do you have the audio enhancement package? I don't see enough details about it to guess whether it could work or not, maybe your rep could say?

i am using the XT1 headset .there is a no option of echo cancel together . but where ever there is a option for the echo cancellation its set to maximum .

i had LOOP between the the Mic- and the ground

i have a shielded twisted pair cable for the speaker with a metal drain wire . is it necessary to have the drain wire or can we remove the drain wire

i don't have the audio enhancement package .
