Network Protection Using 802.1x?

Hi all,

I tried to search for some kind of survey/article here and didn't find too much information. How typical is for integrators to use 802.1X for the IP (cameras, ACS) installs? I'm planning to start using that for all the sites, so I want to educate myself on this topic. Is there something better/newer to protect the network from unauthorized access?
