Need Help Troubleshooting Milestone Lost Connection To LPR Camera

We have a site running 1 camera on Milestone, with LPR. There have been no recordings for several weeks. The partition that this camera records to is empty. Which now makes sense as it is set to store footage for 30 days.

The camera is up and can be accessed from the server running Milestone

Restarted Milestone services and server

Rebooted camera

Confirmed the IP address and port is correct

I am trying to avoid deleting the camera and re-adding as it is an LPR camera and that means having to reload snapshots, configuring the recognition settings etc.

We have close to 10 sites running this same setup with 1 or 2 LPR's so I am confident the camera is compatible. Plus it worked for almost a year.

Care pack is good until 12-31-2019

Express 2017 R2

Any suggestions before I delete/readd the camera or contact Milestone?

Could be a firewall issue possibly but I would guess it is on the same network. I would call their tech support. Maybe a database issue that could be resolved as well.

Jay,

Have you tried the Replace Hardware option, and just entering the same camera information it already has? I don't have LPR setup to test if you would have to reconfigure all of those settings:

Considering it is covered by a care pack, I would recommend calling support to see what they tell you the official course of action would be. If it ends up being deleting and adding the camera back in, you can see what other options people post here, including trying the Replace Hardware option first.

More information is needed to know for sure, but here are some things to check:

Is the license activated? Could have been in 30-day grace period and never activated?

Is the stream using TCP or UDP? I've seen UDP work fine until Microsoft decided to start blocking any inbound UDP even with the Windows Firewall disabled. Adding an explicit "allow" for the UDP traffic then allowed the stream through again.

What does the Recording Server log say? You can peek at the file by right clicking on the Recording Server tray controller icon by the clock and opening it from there, or find the logs in C:\ProgramData\Milestone\Milestone Surveillance

You could have a routing issue or subnet error somewhere on the network. Have you validated the routing between the camera's ports to the server's NIC? Something could have change a VLAN rule or an ACL policy somewhere on your network without you knowing.

LOL sometimes it's the simple things

I reentered the password into Milestone and it came online. Not sure if the camera password was changed from default to the client's standard at some point afterward, or if it just needed to be reentered.

But it's online and recording now.
