An open question here: would you prefer mag locks or "other locking means" in means of egress doors to a 400000 square ft higer ed classroom building? Why? Would your answer change if the building were brand new, allowing change of door hardware? Why

Magnetic Locks In New Buildings
Brian Rhodes
Sep 20, 2016For new construction, I think electrified latch retraction on egress doors is a better solution than maglocks:
1. Maglocks are ugly/ Latch retraction is hidden
2. Maglocks take up space/ Latch retraction is built into exit devices
3. RTE/Request to Exit arrangements are complicated with Maglocks/ Simple with Latch Retraction
However, for retrofits where hardware is already bought/installed/in use, maglocks are more simple and quick method of using electric locks on a door.
