Anyone with any recommendations? Given the recent security issues looking for alternatives.
Needs to support ONVIF, want it to be under $1,000 for 8 channels. Thanks.

What inexpensive NVR today is not made by Dahua, Hikvision or through their OEMs? I am literally not sure. I'm curious to hear answers myself.
Maybe the Exacq M Series? Others?
This was a tough question a couple years ago, now it may be even tougher...
Hi
Korea - Hitron
Taiwan - Surveon
China - Kedacom, Milesight
Where can one buy Hitron or Surveon recorders? They tend to be more OEMs and, e.g., I searched for them in US shopping sites, no matches.
Yes, in origin they are not presented but head office usually provides contacts of theirs local OEM distributor to SI companies
Would be good to know the recording parameters (# of cameras, resolution, motion recording, frame rate, retention time, etc) to know what size HD/disk array would be appropriate.
There are a few, but you can look at Uniview if you are looking for a sizable Chinese manufacturer.
Check out the hanwha models. There poe and non-poe models.

Exacq & Hanwha. Probably the only 2 that are easily purchased and have sufficient local support.
Geovision has some low cost 8 port POE NVRs.
I did an 8 channel Digital Watchdog for about $800 a few months ago
Have you tried Rifatron, Korean?
Try Milesight for good NVR and a good price- LESS Purple drive
Both support 9 POE cameras ONVIF -S
