Lightcam - Interesting Product Or Gimmick?

A WiFi camera that is as easy to install as a light bulb is their tag line.  A camera and storage fit into a light bulb.  I believe this was looked at before, but here the camera has a few neat additions to adapt to different installation environments to try to prevent glare off a glass lighting housing....

Interesting, but do you have lighting in the right spot to capture what you want and does this give off the right lighting to replace the existing light.  Also, someone can simply remove the camera and storage.

I asked them on Facebook about ONVIF support and IIRC they have it in the pipeline (or at least are considering it).

Their answer to the risk of removal is the low price, and the ability to lock the camera to your account so no one can get access to the video or use it for themselves. And since the video is stored in the cloud or eventually your own VMS/NVR, you're not losing important footage.

Honestly, if they add ONVIF support, I will probably get a few for my outdoor light fixtures. The convenience of wireless, reusing existing light sockets for power, and not having to drill holes and mount anything else is pretty compelling from a consumer perspective.

There has been a number of smaller companies offering light bulb cameras but no one has become the Ring or Dropbox of this segment, so it could happen.

I have to say, that's way better thought out than others who have made these bulbcams, the most popular of which is probably Sengled's Snap.

I think it'll be interesting if they end up adding ONVIF or RTSP, but I've yet to see one outside of some Alibaba specials I've seen
