I have a project that I need to mount cameras on rack cabinets, any recommendations? Camera manufacturer? Mounting accessories?
How To Mount Cameras On Rack Cabinets?
Depends on the rack I guess. We've just screwed ours to the side panels, drilled a 1/2" hole with a plastic bushing for the patch cable, and then trim/file down the screws on the other side. I guess we could use bolt/nut instead of screw, but what ever. Or sometimes we attach it the cable tray, some of our trays basically sit right on top of the rack, or cut across between two rows of racks. Little piece of metal as long as the camera to go on the other side of the tray, with bolt/washer/nut.
It will really depends on the desire of the installation. If you want and are cool with a dome on the outside Daniel's recommendation is great. If you are needing something less overt we have used the Axis F1025 pinhole and use the included mount to just have it look out through the rack holes and put the base unit up by the switch. We have a few large data centers with only about 4 feet of space between rack rows so a dome or box outside the rack was not sufficient for us.
Thank you very much gentlemen, that was really helpful.
Years ago I stumbled across a 1U rack-mounted panel camera. I presume the intent was to record whomever was standing in front of or working in the cabinet. I think it may have been APC? Regardless, taking a blank 1U panel, drilling a hole and installing a pinhole cam that can be triggered to record if the cabinet is opened is a great idea for a lights-out data center.
