The default password was changed by the previous integrator and the owner does not know what the password was changed to. Any input would be appreciated.

If there is it is highly unlikely to be publicized in light of recent issues with Dahua. Do you have access to Pelco Utilities on one of the clients PCs? It may have the password saved on it and could be reset or changed from that client. Otherwise, you may have to factory default it.

as for backdoors, Pelco recently issued this for one of their VMSes, so maybe some cameras also?

The affected system contains hard-coded credentials that may allow an attacker to gain access to confidential information or execute code on the affected system.
CVE-2016-4520b has been assigned to this vulnerability. Schneider Electric has assigned a CVSS v3 base score of 8.6; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:H).c

Maybe look thru their CVE's...

For network security reasons, we do not provide backdoor access to IP cameras.

Your best bet is to restore to factory defaults and reset password.

wireshark is your friend. Install on a Hub ( not siwtch) between the camera and the nvr / vms
