CCTV Mandatory In India But No Specifications Raises Complaints
Bangalore, India made CCTV mandatory for bars and shops that sell alcohol. However, they did not include any kind of standards to accompany the rule. Because of that, what they're seeing is that bars are buying the cheapest cameras possible just to meet the requirement (camera dealers in the area say the demand has gone up for cheap cameras and sales are up 30-45 percent in the last year). But when a crime occurs either the cameras aren't working on the image quality is so bad it isn't helpful.
The police commissioner admits some of the footage they get is crap, but says they don't want to get into dictating resolutions and specs because it gets too technical.
