We have changed the term to describe those who have access to IPVM paywalled features from "members" to "subscribers." The reason is that "members" is often associated with organizations that either validate those who are part of it (i.e., one is chosen to become a member of a fraternity) or that the members have the ability to vote on the direction or leadership of the organization (e.g., ASIS or other association).
When I picked the description more than a decade ago, I did not put much thought into using 'member' vs 'subscriber', etc. As we have become bigger and interact with more people in the world (ranging from academia to government), referring to those who access IPVM paywalled features as 'subscribers' more accurately and easily conveys the relationship.
