IP PTZ With 75 Degree Fov?

I'm looking at a spec, and the customer is asking for a PTZ with up to 75 degree field of view, which, if I'm correct, would be a 3.6mm equivalent. I'm having trouble finding a camera to meet that. Any advice?

1, what zoom level do they want? The only PTZs I see delivering 75 degree FoV are only 3 to 4x zoom, e.g., the Hikvision cited above.

In other words, what is the min AoV they want? 30 degrees? 10 degrees? 3 degrees, etc.?

They are asking for 9 pixels per inch at 100 feet when zoomed, or what they call "Identification" at 100 feet.

The DS-2DE4182 does deliver the wide FoV but does not deliver the 9 pixels per inch at 100 feet. The spec effectively calls for 108ppf (9 pixels per inch X 12 inches per foot) but this camera will only deliver a max of ~32ppf at the specified 100 foot distance.

Here is a link to the calculation for that camera, and below is a screenshot of the results:

The revised spec may be nearly unmatchable.

Wide-angle(er) zooms are not common in imaging to begin with, less so in surveillance.

If you must meet the spec, there are two options I see:

  1. The Axis P-5544
  2. A box camera with a pricey c mount zoom lens in a PTZ enclosure.

I rank them thusly:

1 = yikes

2 = double yikes

The P-5544 is a dual lens switching Frankenstein of a camera in search of a problem (until now).

It could switch between 180 on the wide down to 3 degrees on the tele. Sadly, it looks to be out of production and general availability, though there might be one kicking around.

The newer axis q6000-e could be considered, though this technically provides more than a single stream, and is overkill on the 360 wide area.

Th closest option I found in the camera calculator was this Advidia model, which goes from 2.6 tele to ~65 wide.
