IP Cam Text Overlay

Hi all -

I have an application where I'd like to insert text over an IP stream from a camera.

The reason is that this cam is located in an area that should be under surveillance when area not occupied by Owner, but should not when Owner is present. Status of area would be through dry contact from intrusion system.

Power to cam would be cut off, but I'd like to insert a text in overlay on the NVR saying ''Camera not recorded due to area status'', or something similar.

Has anyone ever done this? If so, how?

I've done it before on analog systems, but IP ? Not sure...

Thanks!

Most cameras should allow you to insert an image overlay, so if you created one the size of the camera image with the text you want, and if the camera had inputs you could wire the contact into an input on the camera, and create an event where when the input is active the overlay appears to mask the image and show the text/when the input deactivates the overlay clears out.

You should be able to do this with Axis cameras with action rules. Other manufacturers may have something similar.
