Recently we have become more active in watching what our techs are spending on tools and limiting trips to Home Depot and ADI for repeat tool purchases. We are also wrestling with the concept of requiring certain employee owned tools vs. the more expensive company owned tools. We seem to landing on employees are responsible for their own basic hand tools but more expensive major tools (i.e. Rotary Hammer Drill) are company owned. I'm wondering how other companies handle this. Some specific questions are:
- Do you require employees to own their own tools? If so, do you require they own all tools or only basic and do you help them pay for those tools with an initial and/or yearly stipend?
