When Knockoff Reader Boltholes Are Mismatched, Avoid Zipties

I found this on an eBay seller's page:

My advice is: If the existing standard bracket bolthole pattern does not match your reader, do not suggest/infer/hint the problem is solved with zipties.

One of the risk of buying knockoff replacements is that 'minor' details like thread patterns and hole locations are often slightly 'off'.  It is one of those hidden costs that can make a 'great deal' a profit sink on the jobsite.

Yeah, everybody knows that you're supposed to use electric tape. Or maybe a squirt of silicone around the edges.

Or tile mortar (obviously someone likes tile work)

You act as though every thief owns a pair of nail clippers...

Is a $90 generic reader worth stealing?

Maybe not, but ripping an unbolted reader off the mount and tossing it like a frisbee can cause all sorts of operational issues and leave wires exposed.

Does that ever stop them?
