Can anyone help what is meant by Inbound and outbound in Firewall settings. Also if we say Inbound or outbound is it unidrectional or bidirectional.

What VMS are you using? I beleive there is a Customer furnished equipment guide for every VMS. Please check the same.

It is for the Access control system. I checked the manual and other stuff. But it says inbound for some of the port, outbound for some ports and Inbound/Outbound for some ports. But customer is asking for which one is Unidirectional and which one isbidirectional

Disclosed R, here's an easy to understand document describing firewalls and inbound/outbound ports.

Understanding Your Firewall Setting - Make Tech Easier

In a nutshell, inbound ports are connections that are coming in from outside the firewall, and outbound are ones coming from inside firwall going out. So just think of the in/out part as the destination. As an example if you are using your browser to retrieve a page from Google, you are using an outbound port (80). Conversely, if you are running a web server and someone accesses a page on it from NY, that is an inbound port (80).

I'm not sure whether you are just trying to program some basic port forwarding (possible), or custom firewall rules (tricky). You may also need to know about NAT. I don't know what is meant by a inbound/outbound label for some ports, unless it is shorthand for an inbound port and an outbound port with the same port number. As for bidirectional question, all connections are created bidirectionally by default. Good luck...

Wilson, Thanks for the detailed note, but just a quick question on unidirectional & Bidirectional.

If my port assignment document says for example a port 1433-SQL Server is outbound port can I take this unidirectional vice versa for Port-80 -IIS is Inbound can I take this as unidirectional.

Also in some of the port it says Inbound/Outbound port, can I take this bidirectional.
