Good Day

Let me start by saying I appreciate your efforts to review technology in the security industry.

I know IPVM have said that the Hikvision cameras with Firmware 5.4.5 will come defaulted with the "phone home" feature disabled see screenshot of article below, however I just opened a sealed camera box 3mpixel Hikvision camera with firmware 5.4.5 and the radio button was checked. I guess we need to be checking every camera.

Thanks for the info! Can you answer a couple of things?

1. What model is it?

2. Where did you purchase it from?

We want to ascertain the model, region, and source before we do any digging on this. I certainly believe it's possible, but haven't seen it personally.

I have a couple of thoughts on this;

1) ADI has sent us units that they upgraded to 5.4.5 in house. There is no way to tell what other settings they may have changed in the process.

2) If you buy a camera with an previous firmware version, which had Hik-Connect enabled by default, then push the 5.4.5 upgrade, will it retain the Hik-Connect setting of the previous config? Or does upgrading to 5.4.5 CHANGE the setting?

3) I can, and have, been able to open Hikvision boxes without the product looking like it was opened, meaning the seals were intact. You can usually open their boxes quicker by opening them from the bottom, instead of fighting the VOID sticker on the top. Maybe you had an open box unit, unknown to you.
