Looks like Hik isn’t the only company that makes money doing their country’s dirty work.  Spying on citizens to make a profit.

NSA Finalizes $6.7 Billion in Classified Tech Contracts

When will enough be enough?  A terrorist can send his communications through the postal service and those aren’t surveilled but when you make a phone call to your wife someone is listening.

Wrong. Try reading your own article when you get a second,

I was indeed wrong.  They don’t listen to calls, just monitor the call data and capture text messages.  But given that it is classified who knows what they do.  Surveillance States East and West.

The difference is that we don't have reeducation camps and we still have freedom of the press and freedom of speech.

The US government (and others, I imagine) have a long history of paying for the services of private companies to do "government" jobs, including security work.  (See Blackwater, etc.  It's called a GOVERNMENT CONTRACT.)  The difference is, these companies don't ALSO surreptitiously work for an enemy.  If they did...well, they'd probably get the HIK or Dahua treatment, no?  Banned from employment in the country?  (Or worse??)
