Google reports that IPv6 usage among their users has jumped from ~10% in 2016 to ~20% so far in 2018. This comes after taking 20 years (from IPv6's RFC adoption in 1996 until 2016) to reach 10%.

The highest percentage of adoption by far is in Belgium, with ~50%, followed by Greece, Germany, and the US, shown on this map:

What do you think? Have you seen growing IPv6 adoption, either from ISPs or in internal networks? Do you expect any impact on surveillance in the next 1-2 years?

I'm guessing by the time IPv6 becomes mainstream, I'll have made the switch to the metric system too.

I know a large retailer that is using IPv6 for their video surveillance networks; and I had a local school district switch to IPv6/IPv4 dual stacked on their video network a few years back. The VMS/cameras was the only application that was using it, so they reverted back to IPv4 across the board after a couple years.

It was a complete pain because the VMS did not (at the time) support adding cameras with a hostname, so you had to type out the entire hexadecimal address, for example:

20d1:0db8:85a3:2300:3776:8a2e:a370:7334

for. every. single. camera.
