How Important Flush Mounting Option For Biometric Access Control & Time Attendance Product ??

As per my knowledge, There are mainly two types of mounting options majorly happen for Access control & TA:

1. Wall mount

2. Flush mount or Surface mount

Flush mount option requires architect to be consider final product in well advance and in such products it might not be the standard practice like Elevator and switch boards in building/infrastructure development ??

is there any standard for size (of Gang Box) for flush mounting of such access control product ?

Is Flush mouting feasible in established building (where Flush mouting provision is not covered) ?

However in most cases, Flush mounting type products have more aesthetic appeal compare to wall mounting product.

Please share your experience and views.

Access control is commonly a retrofitted system (installed after the building is constructed), and so 'flush mounting' is often not a popularly supported option due to cost.  It indeed looks nicer to have flush mounted units, but it costs more to install/prep for install.

IF a standard is used, it is at least a double or triple box size.  But many units are larger than triple mount, so a 'standard size' isn't all that useful when it is not common anyway.

Fingerprint sensor accessibility vs accessibility standards (ie: ADA) may also be a factor that complicates flush-mounting.

If installed in a stud and drywall type construction, I don't think flush mounting is especially difficult but relatively costly.  Trim ring and drywall mud rings aren't hard to install, but they are not as easy/quick to bang up as surface mounted equipment.

FYI: Flush-mounting is sometime required but I don't see it as a main feature that would require a standard product to be designed flush-mount (note: Suprema Inc sells "100,000++" of fingerprint readers yearly). Especially for TnA, it makes no sense. But for Access Control .. why not?

Installation is not easy and every region (USA / EU / MEA / APAC) has different standards for Gang-box sizes (note: same hassle than for for electric plugs ...). And then a region standard has different sizes (single / double / triple) ....

However, I think that this is good to have a flush-mount accessory so that you can meet the end-user requirement when expressed (and when customers budget can afford it).

Below is the Suprema BioEntry W2 (IP67/IK08) flush-mounted in a robust metal box.

Suprema sales team will put you in contact for getting a quotation of this accessory if you contact us on below link:
