Naming things is one of the hard problems in computer science and also one of the hard problems of IP video systems. Every time I set up a camera system, about 40% of the time spent adding a camera to the VMS is actually spent trying to figure out what to call it.
In order to make things logical, over the years we've adopted a system where there is a building tag in the name and also the end of the IP address, so the name is like "(TAG) Camera Name (1.100)". But that still leaves the base name.
