How Do You Commission New Cameras, VMS Or Webpage?

Which way have you found easier/better and which would you recommend to someone starting?

VMS - Being an Avigilon fan, we let our smaller systems use apipa addressing. We add a second NIC to the NVR, attached a managed switch with a 2nd VLAN for cameras, place it in MAC address learn mode, and once the system is up, we lock the MAC tables. We almost never access the web interface of the camera, and we leave the default password in place. Aim and forget. The management VLAN of the switch is accessible from the management VLAN for SNMP stats on the cameras. Aim and Forget.
