Embedded 4K NVR

They promote this as H.265 and 4K.

Mick, what is the specific issue? Are you saying the NVR does not support H.265 and 4K or?

The question is what do people think it actually delivers

Hikvision state its a 32chn NVR, H.265 +, 4K

Its these very confusing specs that mislead customers.

I'm confused. The specs say that the recorder can record either 16 or 32 channels depending on the model, can support H.265/H.264/MPEG4 cameras, and can record cameras up to 8MP. Just as John asked, does it not do these things.

Maybe he is talking about the maximum throughput of multiple 8MP cameras being greater than what the back end can handle? I am not sure either TBH.

"16/32-ch network cameras can be connected with
160M/256M incoming bandwidth"
It is not equal to synchronous display 16/32ch of h265 4K video.
And this kind of spec. are almost used in every NVR.

Or did you test this NVR cannot recording 16ch of 4k video?

And why would any manufacturer want to make comparison easier?
Difficult to compare mean more income.
It's happen on every industry, right?

Hence my original question

my point i suppose is this

why doesnt the industry quote from max performance and work that as a spec

so if this nvr is a 4k nvr why note quote max spec at 4k (8mp)

so the nvr working on a 16 mbs ip camera is a 16 chn nvr

with 2 chn play back

this would make comparisons easier

rather than is 32 chn at 4mp and 8 chn playback at 1080p

its all confusing

why cant the industry agree how products are sold

or the installer goes to site with a botched spec

then blags the customer to keep it

knowing it doesnt deliver

The funny thing is I made up this number of 256 mbs

i was thinking about the sex pistols rock n roll scandal

and thought let's call our nvr 256

mbs

hik dahua copied it it's the most meaningless number

If Hik would advertise what it actually CAN do they would destroy their sales. They have been selling '64ch NVRs' with 160Mbps throughput for ages yet synchronous playback would be 16ch at 4 Cif only. Clearly nobody cares about what the machine is actually capable of until such time an incident happens covering 8x 2MP cameras and they cant be played back at the same time...you get what you pay for.

It's become such a scam I decided to make things up

256 mbs one of many

i think it's hesterical the industry thinks it means something

This overstatement on quantity of cameras at resolution X versus throughput is common throughout the industry.  Panasonic WJ-ND400 is one example.  I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary here.  Just calculate your throughput needs and add some overhead.  Otherwise be prepared to have 64 4K cameras recording at 1 FPS.

I guess the average SI using Hik doesn't do throughput calculations or a proper system design allowing for different scene types etc. I come across this on a near daily basis unfortunately.

My point is this

if we want an industry in which specifications have meaning

ivpm should become a test lab

benchmark for tests standards

to which the world follows

toms hardware did this

pc direct set labs for IT

they need to determine the principals to which an industry follows

so I want John to stop worrying weather hikvision is part of the evil empire

buts sets the benchmarks for testing

i feel a lucky number 8 coming

good number in china

I will see how to introduce it into a spec of something

It would be foolish to assume that 'everyone' needs to playback 16 channels at the same time and demand full resolution on all 16 Channels. This is dipping in the weeds and nitpicking.....
