Does anyone have a creative suggestion?

Are you trying to mount it in the box behind another plate? Trying to picture how many layers are involved here.

Is the question "Can an R10 fit inside a single gang box?"

Is it possible to make an RP10 fit in a single gang box securely?

Response from HID:

Part Number ip65gskt-r10 is just some foam for the RP10 reader and not what you are looking for. I would recommend using the RP40 reader instead which will fit the gang box.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

The RP40 has dimensions of 4.8˝ x 3.3˝ x 1.0" and will not fit into a standard single gang box either.

It would be tight in an oversize single box at 5.25" X 3.50" with less than an eight of an inch to spare on either side.

So is the doc above wrong or am I reading it wrong?

The R10 can mount atop a single gang box using a mudring, but it won't fit inside it.
