HDR monitors are a growing trend in general use, e.g. see: Engadget: New standard sets baseline for HDR on PC displays and see this video embedded:

I am wondering what you all think about HDR monitors value for video surveillance use. Any ideas? Worth an IPVM test?

Unless the cameras are outputting an HDR signal you would not see any benefit other then the display artificially enhancing the image not that I still do not want to see a test:)

The "HDR ON" image is more dramatic, but the rifle is more visible in the "HDR OFF" image.

I have seen HDR photos of various locations on Weather Underground and have consistently disliked them.

All about the source. If the cameras don't have HDR, you are just getting a distorted representation from a bad source. I'd recommend instead spending the $$ on monitor quality and reliability than an HDR algorithm.

HDR monitors do not do any processing of the incoming signal.  If it's not an HDR signal, then the image will look the same as it did on a non-HDR monitor.

We just had Primeview in and they said they are seeing demand for HDR in control centers to reduce user fatigue. I asked if there was any science behind it and wasn't sure, just something they have seen increased demand for.

Is it related to HDR and HEVC Main 10 profile?
