The Avigilon Edge recorder is a 4 channel POE Solid state recorder available in 2TB or 4TB and has an Operating Temperature of 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F) and 10 - 90% Relative humidity (non-condensing).

I was curious if there were other manufacturers offering this solution. Google has not been my friend on this.

Which specs are you interested in?

We have a post on a 3rd party unit here: Rugged Open High PoE NVR Examined (Razberi), but not sure what spec is most critical.

Thanks for the info Brian. I am working on a project that is going to require hardened DVRs. I was curious if my competitors would have a solution that might cost less than my proposed Avigilon solution. Looks like they won't.

I changed the title to "Hardened Recorder Options Lower Cost Than Avigilon?" to make the request clearer.

There may be lower cost options out there. I am not familiar with this space so I won't speculate but we should see what others know.

I know some people, myself included, who have used Compulab's line, which a few manufacturers OEM or have OEM'd, as well. I don't remember exact pricing but a typical model (no PoE) was ~$600 I think. I looked at some with the PoE module built in and don't recall what they added to the price. Maybe $100-200?

I'm not sure of many others that are open platform with PoE.

So what’s the cost to beat then?

Saw this Neousys 4 port Poe, -25C to 70C fanless unit.  No VMS loaded, supposedly designed for surveillence.

Distribution in the U.S. here.

No experience with.

The EDGE NVR (ACC ES HD Recorder) is not based on SSD but uses a HDD in 2TB or 4TB. It can accommodate up to 4 IP cameras and puts out PoE+ on all 4 ports. It is Linux based and comes with a dedicated version of the ACC ENTERPRISE software.

The ACC EDGE Solution Analytics Appliance is similar unit but it applies Analytics to up to a maximum of 6 IP cameras with the release of ACC 6.6.

The confusion about SSD and HDD might have come from the fact that the Generation 2 Appliances (8, 16 and 24 Port) now come with the OS on a SSD.

Hope this helps.

Interesting,

So if the ACC ES HD does not have a solid state drive then how does it survive in a warm environment at the specified operating range?

What type of environment are you installing these in?   We have close to hundred of these in NEMA boxes on poles with out issues.

That's the exact application and some unconditioned buildings with large electric pumps in them that could get up into the 115 degree range.
I was always under the impression that spinning disks don't live very long in environments over 90 degrees. Maybe I'm wrong.

We haven't had any issues and have them installed in the same environment that you're talking about.   They have a 2.5inch drive in them.  I was thinking to install an SSD in them just to test but I haven't had the time.

You can purchase rugged-spec/extended temp HDDs for applications like this. They are also popular in many automotive systems these days for storing navigation maps, music libraries, etc. This is what Avigilon is using to meet the operating spec range.

Thanks guys,

It appears Avigilon is still the best bang for the buck by far. Now if they would offer a 8 channel that would be awesome.
