Getting Drunk At Work Events?
How do various companies handle alcohol, and more specifically, getting drunk at work events? I hear fairly regularly stories of "guy x got drunk, guy x did..."
Are there policies in place? Do companies explicitly encourage or discourage this? etc. We are looking into some situations and are curious what roles companies / management play (or don't play) in these matters.

On several occasions, I've had to step in, take someone aside, and suggest they return to their room, call a taxi, or simply leave an event. I've also been on the receiving end of this type of intervention. You don't have to be falling-down drunk to make a fool of yourself; simple slurring and loud, boisterous behavior can easily result in lost respect.
