How do various companies handle alcohol, and more specifically, getting drunk at work events? I hear fairly regularly stories of "guy x got drunk, guy x did..."

Are there policies in place? Do companies explicitly encourage or discourage this? etc. We are looking into some situations and are curious what roles companies / management play (or don't play) in these matters.

You don't have to be falling-down drunk to make a fool of yourself; simple slurring and loud, boisterous behavior can easily result in lost respect.
