Frustration With Hikvision & Dahua Mobile Apps

Why can't either of these "world leaders in security technologies" develop a decent mobile app? I stopped using Dahua 5 years ago because their mobile app sucked. I switched to Hikvision and, over the years, the Hik-Connect app has been improved but still isn't great. Without being able to filter by event type in playback, you're stuck scrubbing through hours of motion or continuous recordings. However, 90% of my installs utilize PIRs/photobeams tied to push notifications which alleviates most of that issue. The problem is if you don't have push notifications always enabled or disabled on a schedule, you won't see any of the events which occurred while it was disabled. Hik recently added a "silence notifications" feature which helps with annoyance alerts such as when the gardener is tripping it. Being able to set the "silence notifications" on a schedule would be very handy as the events will continue to populate in the Notification section of the app. This is all fine and dandy IF you have PIRs/photobeams to trigger off of...which brings me to my next point: analytics.

As many of you know, onboard analytics has been reserved for high-end/commercial level cameras. Even then, analytics performance has historically been pretty poor. Currently, Avigilon seems to be one of the only companies to have reliable analytics. Our company, however, does mostly residential installs which rules out Avigilon as a cost-effective solution. After seeing the IPVM test report on Dahua's new Analytics+ models, I had some hope.

If you unlock your phone without tapping on the notification, it will not show up in the "Message" list. This is a problem I have had going back to 2014 and still has not been fixed. Hikvision had a similar issue with their app and finally fixed it several years ago. This is completely unacceptable and will be the main reason for going back to Hikvision.
