Does the rule of Free Egress Always apply to vehicles in respect to the code?
I used to live in an apartment complex years ago and they had an access controlled parking deck. There was a gate that restricted access in and out. We had keychain remotes that we had to press a button on to open the gate (opened both directions of the gate.) There was no vehicle sensor in place on the exit side that would open when you pulled up. It required you to push the keychain remote button. There was also no easy access for foot traffic to exit the parking deck. You would have to enter the building (open air hallways) then walk down a hallway to exit the building. When considering life safety, if you were in a vehicle and needed to exit the parking deck quickly and you did not have the keychain remote you would have to exit your vehicle, re-enter the building then run down the hallway to exit.
This gate was all installed after the building was complete and occupied.
