On Friday, the Washington Post published a story detailing how former members of congress are on Hikvision’s payroll. The news centered on a recent FARA filing from former CT representative, Toby Moffett. Moffett, who is a co-chair for DC mega lobbying firm Mercury, joined former LA Senator, David Vitter, as part of the team supporting Hikvision’s US Gov lobbying. Recall that IPVM broke the 2019 story of David Vitter declaring he is a “Proud member of the Hikvision team”.
The WaPo covering this news is significant for a number of reasons. First, it brings attention to a large audience as to how Hikvision is repeatably able to hire former members of Congress to support their US interests. Secondly, on the heels of a critical FCC ruling – it shows that Hikvision is still investing resources to challenge the NDAA- and ultimately their survival in the US video surveillance market.
