For Long Distance Jobs, When Do You Have Your Employees Clock In And Out?

As my company is growing, I am traveling farther and farther to do work.

What is the accepted practice as to when your employee's clock in and out? This is not for billing purposes, rather for payroll. I am talking about jobs that are between 1 - 2 hours away from the office.
