Fed Contract Costs LPR Systems Manufacturer State/Local Business

Vigilant Solutions, the clear front runner in LPR systems deployed by municipalities was recently awarded a large Federal contract for access to their database.  In an interesting development, this has since potentially cost them $500K in business at the state/local level due to privacy concerns.

What are your thoughts, is this type of concern merited or just political maneuvering?

I think that if the local LE hasn't checked out their vendors it's not cool.  P.s. you might get ambushed when you go for budget.

Somebody somewhere should have some shred of policy for the data.  The sane debate would be whether the application merits the risks to privacy and where there's (a) policy that (someone) is executing.

And yes if Alameda turns itself into an armed encampment like Piedmont I think it would not be shocking if business traffic were impacted.
