Cross the street illegally, get a shoutout:

Emblematic of this unprecedented surveillance apparatus are the facial recognition devices deployed in Shenzhen last April that are meant to deter jaywalkers. These devices take photos of offenders and display them on large LED screens above the intersection, along with their name and part of their government ID number. (There is also a website showing photos and information for jaywalkers in Shenzhen.)

Thoughts?

Also once the AI detects your wrong-doing it then automates the fine via text. Correct me if wrong, but China society operates on a guilty if there is a reasonable chance you did it basis, rather than a proof beyond a reasonable doubt required basis.

Similar to how Stalin ran Russia based on terror that anyone could be a snitch, that state did not have the technology at the time, and now China does... hmm..

Theory - What if you NEVER have social media and no phone - if they can't find you, they can't fine you?

China is doing some scary shit. Read up on their citizen scoring system and how it is designed to inspire social pressure from peers to behave as the state wants them to behave. So if an individual expresses himself politically or displays shopping habits which are not approved by the leadership, his score will be lowered - oh yeah same with your friends and family.

End of rant.
