Exit Readers On Swing Doors

We have a client who seems to have a standard in many countries of using exit readers on main office doors (swing doors). They have break glass units too but I just don't see the point of an exit reader on such a door other than annoying staff and visitors. Maybe I'm missing something? In my mind, exit readers are used to accurately count people on site and for mustering but only if some kind of pass-back resistant turnstile is used.

Am I missing a practical reason for these exit readers on office doors?

Even if no areas or pass-back rules are in place they can still run a report on when an individual leaves. That is what I have seen many customers do. Sometimes this helps with verifying when people actually work as well.

Interesting, I believe there may be cases where the access system can't be used as a time and attendance system unless explained as such to the employees. In that case, it would be essential that everybody badge at the exit reader when leaving but there seems to be no rule about this for this client.

If it's a T&A system then shouldn't it be designated as one 100% of the time and linked to payroll?

Let me rephrase. They don't use the system as a T&A system. They system is just used to verify what is reported from the T&A system. Essentially it helps out in investigations of time abuse and other situations as well. If something comes up missing and the person read out of the building then odds are that person couldn't have been involved.
