Can anyone suggest a product that essentially acts as a secure locker for evidence that is generated by Milestone in the form of snapshots and exported video clips? Ideally this solution would be directly integrated into Smart Client so the user never has to leave the milestone environment to upload and manage evidence. Ideally, the solution is cloud based, but also offers an on site, privately managed version.

Need Suggestions For "Evidence Locker" That Is Integrated To Milestone

Nov 06, 2018If you're using XProtect Corporate you'll have access to the built-in Evidence Lock feature which I think does what you're asking. Essentially you follow a similar process to performing an export, but instead of hitting export, you'll choose Evidence Lock. A lock can contain one or more cameras and related devices (metadata/audio) and be locked for any duration including "forever".
The video remains where it is on the Recording Server and will be archived just like any other recordings on that server if archiving is used, but it will not be deleted. Later, you can play it back or export it easily. It's popular to use this when a customer needs to review a specific period of video for potential liability or when law enforcement request video. That way that timespan and group of cameras is recorded as an "entity" in the list of evidence locks. The description might have a case # or other relevant reference and the list of locks can be searched.
I haven't heard about a Milestone-integrated third-party application doing this yet.

Nov 06, 2018Hi Joshua, thanks for the follow up! I am looking for more along the lines of an Export Repository. A secure place to keep all of your Milestone stuff if you will...Somewhere physically outside of the direct Milestone chain, but integrated closely enough so that management of the exported resources are organized for a multi-user, multi-tenant environment. Would need to control permissions for who can do what, but that could be done outside of Milestone...Needs to be really intuitive and easy to use!

Nov 06, 2018That would be a cool integration and I like the idea of improving redundancy by getting the video exported out of the Milestone system and duplicated.
I don't think it's being done right now, but it's something that could be done via MIP SDK. The only thing I'm not sure about is the user experience when attempting to call up exported video. The plugin could probably try playing it back from a network drive or download it and launch the Smart Client player or AVI/MKV in a particular player like VLC? Or perhaps a media player could be integrated with Smart Client as a plugin? Maybe in it's own workspace tab?

Nov 07, 2018I'm jumping in here and no doubt stepping on Milestone's toes (my apologies), but check out Genetec Clearance. You do NOT need any other Genetec products to use it, but if I'm understanding your request correctly, it does exactly what you're asking.

As Undisclosed mentioned, you can send exports from XProtect – or any video system - to Clearance to retain specific incident clips long-term and share them with other stakeholders. Access to case/file information is controlled by user permissions and all actions are tracked within the system’s audit trails. By exporting videos in AVI, or other supported formats, you’ll be able to playback and redact them natively in Clearance. Other files (mobile phone captures, reports, MKV containers, etc.) can also be included in the case.

Nov 07, 2018Not exactly your question, but XProtect Corporate's "Evidence Lock" is a secure locker for video without having to export the video; it's retained in the database. Evidence Lock info
Milestone announced a partnership with Axon earlier this year for Evidence.com.
There's also interesting integrations with a variety of evidence management systems like D3 Security.
