Do You Use Your Own Credit Card And Then Company Reimburses Or Do You Have A Company Card?

It seems most people have to use their own personal credit card and then wait sometimes a month or more to get reimbursed. A nuisance and arguably a bad deal for employees.

Here's a poll:

Curious for anyone's thoughts on this. How does your company do it? What do you like / dislike about it?

Everyone has a company card with limited purchasing power.

I work for a manufacturer where we used to use our personal credit card and then the company would reimburse us. I personally LOVED it because I would rack up a lot of reward points on my personal credit card which I could then use for personal travel. If you are a frequent traveler this can translate into some serious points when using the right card. Our company was good about getting us our reimbursement check for expenses within 3-4 weeks of submitting an expense report but I could see where it would be troublesome for some employees if their company didn't process expense reports in a timely manner.

For about the past two years we are now using company credit cards. Its a bummer to lose out on all the points but it is probably easier for the company with less expense reports to process and less checks to cut.

We use corporate cards and I absolutely loathe it. Would much prefer to handle all expenses myself to rack up rewards points and be reimbursed. I've also never worked anywhere that was slow with reimbursements so that probably colors my thoughts on this quite a bit, but I can also say that unless it was months and/or an obscene amount of money, it is unlikely that I would care anyways.

Each crew has a lead tech and they have their own company card. Service techs have a card as well.

Our cards are actually debit cards that all have my name on them and it's a don't ask don't tell thing at the bank... lol. We limit the amount in the account but if we know they need to make a larger purchase, we can easily transfer more money into their account.

I would never expect my techs to use their own card and wait 3-4 weeks to reimburse. We also go to Home Depot frequently and everyone knows if they don't have a card (like a helper), they can go to the pro desk and they will call us for cc info (it's called a phone sale).

Rather collect rewards, usually dealing with travel expenses and software subscriptions.

As for the field technicians, I think they should have a company card as they will be farming at home depot and lowes too often.

I have worked for companies that have used all three options mentioned above:  corp credit card, corp debit card, and my own personal credit card.

I prefer the personal credit card - for the reasons/benefits mentioned above by others.

*Note:  FLIR HR will (almost) always pay out on Friday if I get my expenses in by Monday of any given week - so I imagine that this skews my perception.  If the company reimburses quickly, there is no downside - and at least some upside - to using my own card.

I carry a company card but rarely use it, normally I get reimbursed within a few days, if it took longer I would probably use the company card more. Racking up reward point is always a plus, I don't think I have paid more than $1.50 in a long while for a gallon of gas due to my rewards

Company card at this employer, personal card with reimbursement in the past.  I prefer the company card.  While I did enjoy all of the points with a personal card there was always a lingering fear that the company would not reimburse for whatever reason.  There is some peace of mind with the company credit card.

I've had both.  I kinda prefer having my own card.  I have a card that I use for business only, with 2% cash back.  Last year, I got $1800 cash back on it, and it cost me nothing.
