Resolution is the big setting that everyone talks about. However, compression / quality is another important factor that impacts what details are captured. The impression I get is that most people leave it at the manufacturer's default (which often is fine). However, some manufacturers default the compression really high (to reduce bandwidth use) or really low (to give the best possible first impression) which can cause issues (see our tutorial on measuring compression).
