Do We Need To AGAIN Warn People About Direct Public IP Connections

Don't connect gear to the public internet without proper configuration. Don't leave it at the default settings. Very very old advice, perhaps worth discussing again? Do we really need to keep telling people about this? (Or is it limited to non-IPVM readers ;-)
