Do Cannabis Greenhouses Require 940nm IR Illumination?

Getting away from PPF for a moment, we were told by a grower that the plants had to be in a dark environment for 12 hours a day.  When we explained that the IR cameras we were proposing used 850 NM emitters, with some visible light present, his research suggested 940 NM emitters would be required.  Never verified his findings...just an FYI to those involved in this "growing" vertical market.

This seems to be a long-standing topic of debate:

Simply put, no. We worked with a well known MJ researcher to prove this was not the case. The higher the better, but the effect of IR light on MJ plants in the real world was negligible. The concern is it would cause the plants to stretch, it was a non-issue.

That said, we made sure to offer cameras with a lockable day mode for the growers that didnt believe us.

We tested relatively low powered IR cameras. I cant speak to the effects on larger or more powerful long range IR cameras.

Btw, a "dark environment" to plants but one visible to cameras and humans alike can be provided by green-only illumination.

Since chlorophyll appears green, therefore it reflects green.

Green spectrum lightning allows workers to keep working during dark periods and is available at grower's marketplaces.

Now if somebody were to replace the security cameras IR led ring with the correct frequency spectrum green leds, that would be a camera that could possibly generate some interest from growers :)
