Cat5e Run Over 1000', What Is The Best Way To Fix This?

I understand the distance for Cat5e is around 300 or so feet. I took over a job for someone that ran over around 1000ft.  What is the best way to fix this.  I read some on putting switches in ?? Also the power is run that far as well for a PTZ.  I am going to run power so it is only approx. 250ft. away from the camera, this should be adequate?? Just need a little help on this as I usually run the wire and it is never that far.  Thanks

You could use these products or similar to extend the Ethernet to 1,000' or more without anything in the middle.

You need to be cautious on a 250' run of copper wire for a PTZ.  Verify the maximum current needed.

Assuming 250' and 18ga wire with a 1.5a PTZ (the ones with LED's draw a lot) you will lose 4.79 Volts and end up at the camera with about 19.21 volts at the camera.  

At that distance you need to run 14ga or maybe 12ga.  Do a calculation.

Is the 1000' foot run connecting one camera, or several cameras?

Do you know which model of PTZ you're wanting to power?  The best answer depends on how much power and which type of power is needed.

Number of questions:

 

PTZ - What is the model number?  These are often PoE+ and require midspans for power.

 

Ethernet spec is 100 m approx 394 feet then the signal needs to be repeated.

Some type of extender is required take a look at Perle or NVT.  Some of these support PoE +

PoE and Ethernet extenders could be an option for you, but like others have said/implied, you will need to check the power requirements of the camera vs. the output rating of the extender at the specific distance.  I recommend measuring vs. guess-timation on the distance.

Another option would be an external power supply for the camera with an Ethernet extender rated for the distance.

Third option would be external power for the camera and replacing the copper with fiber, using media converters at each end.  Media converters would need power as well, and you could use a PoE media converter to power the camera.  Interlogix (IFS) makes some solid, reliable equipment of this type that we use regularly.
