Detecting & Monitoring Valid Physical Entry In Access Control Systems

What is the best way of detecting & monitoring valid physical entry in access control systems where people need to be counted as they pass across the doors on valid every only.

For example if a valid token is presented and the door opened but the person doesn't actually pass through if for example they forgot something and turned etc, for counting systems this can result in an in-accurate count.

I think perhaps mounting beams across the door (on the other side) to detect physical interruption may be the answer?

How can this be installed & configured in an access control system when a valid every is already being configured as a valid token & door contact combined to create a valid entry, how can the additional beam be added onto this scenario?

Also, if anyone has experience in how to integrate this solution in an Avigilon ACM system then that would be great.

Many thanks.

Rashid,

The best solution is turnstiles and physical construction of portals that deter tailgating however using cameras with analytics or beam detectors with access control will meet most requirements.

I would reach out to your local Avigilon Manufacturer Rep. and try to get some details on this solution they have on the website.

3 Ways Access Control and HD Video Surveillance Complement Each Other

I have used this Detex product at a small 24 hour fitness center in the past and it worked well.  We triggered a piezo and we also tagged the video clip for review later so the scene could be reviewed and any action could be taken.

AT-5200 TAILGATE DETECTION SYSTEM

Good luck.

Rashid;

You could, I suppose, use beams as you suggest along with the door position switch as an additional input, so you could tell if a person went through the door after a valid access granted.  I would think you'd need to put the beams as close as possible to the interior side of the door, but always opposite the door swing in order to avoid false counts.

I still see a lot of potential 'false positives' with this approach, from lingering in the doorway, etc.

Seems like a turnstile would be a better count of actual entries, or you could use a 'people counter' that I've seen used successfully in many retail installations that tracks entries and exits.  These devices can set inputs/outputs to tie into your access control platform.

Hope that helps,

Greg

There are some sensors using 'Time Of Flight' cameras that do this. One example: New Anti-Tailgating Product from Optex.

Analytic turnstile, 2020.

You are on the outside of the door; you see a card reader and camera.

You read your card the camera takes your picture. This is near instant. This camera is right above the card reader.

You open the door, contact sensor sends signal(this is the new contact sensor that reports the door's exact angle of openness).

After entering thru the door you are faced with a second camera, smile it is authenticating your face/photo from the first picture. It is also watching the approaching people on the outside.

As the door is closing the same second camera is looking at line cross analytics and also verifying with the door contact it has fully closed. Pictures and synchronization are collaborating amongst all devices.

The cameras onboard cell antenna is also authenticating your phone's IMEI. It can also check for you car keys or any other BLE token you might asset tag property with. If you are missing something and someone else has it, you can ask the system via phone app to add it to the track list. Should the device be found notifications are sent.

Now, if you have passed thru this door and no one tailgated you will only feel this is the same as walking thru card reader door transaction. However if someone did tailgate then you, with a photo of the tailgater are sent via all parties, text and email of the event.

Welcome to 2020, when half of the integrators have been taken out by the comet!!!

I would like to request IPVM test the new Axis Anti-Tailgate sensor.  It's highly interesting but needs some vetting to build trust!  Any chance you guys would do that?
