Connecticut's Facial Recognition Bill: A Model For States?

Technology is just a tool, and it can be used for both good or ill. The goal of legislation should be to protect people from harms that result from the abuse of the technology, not to stop its use overall.

Good article and I like the approach.

For those who are not aware, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce will meet on June 15 in Washington, DC. A discussion draft of "Privacy Best Practice Recommendations For Commercial Facial Recognition Use" has been posted on the NTIA website for consideration. Presumably the privacy groups, who walked out of the NTIA discussions a year ago, will not support this document because it contains merely "recommendations."
