Hi Guys,

I have had a request form a customer to find a CCTV camera solution that meets a unique set of reequipments.  They have about 70 cameras site wide that are part of 4 different systems and as such are looking at replacing everything if needed to meet the below.  The school runs on Apples so we cannot use anything that is a windows only product. They have had quotes on using a VMS but it is very expensive and they loose a lot of camera functionality due to the cheap cameras currently installed.

 Requirements:

  • Must be web based for footage review
    • The browser Must not be active X dependant due to the site being running on apples.
  • Must be IP
  • Must allow for different levels of users to have different amount of control when logged in.
  • Cameras will need to come back over a the site network VLAN back into NVR’s mounted in a core rack.
  • When searching for footage the system must be able to jog through footage at a high speed.
  • Prefer a licence free system (no ongoing licence renewals)

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Regards Andrew

Andrew, what VMS have they already looked at? That would give us a better sense of what they disliked / thought was too costly.

Since they want it web based rather than a native Mac app (which is much rarer), there should be a number of options.

Actually there are some inexpensive NVR's that run an IOS CMS client with no licensing.

Why does this need to be web based on apple? Hikvision has a mac client and ios app. Why would you need a separate thin client to review video from those 2?

Milestone Systems

Milestone's web client works on all major web browser and is not ActiveX based. The iOS mobile app is available as well.

You might try installing the free XProtect Essential+ software - the web client will be the same as the paid versions, then do a comparison against the other options mentioned.
