Can Geolocations Be Tracked With Access Cards?

I have a customer that asked if there was a card access system that would provide geotracking of the card holder within their campus.  Does anyone know of a system and if so, what is your experience with setup, functionality, and reliability?

This may be possible using mobile phones / mobile credentials, but given that standard credentials are unpowered with no onboard power source, they cannot broadcast or work as beacons.

For standard contactless credentials, this would only work if the entire campus was covered and within read range of a reader - not a practical constraint.

I have never seen an access card with tracking but have a look at Status Solutions.

They do geo-tracking for people and assets by way of a battery powered pendant.
